Beato Andrea Jimenez Galera Sacerdote salesiano, martire

Andrés Jiménez Galera nacque a Rambla de Orla (Almería) il 25 gennaio 1904. Entrato in Seminario e ricevuta l'ordinazione sacerdotale nel 1926, esercitò il sacro ministero ad Almería, finché nel 1935 entrò nella Congregazione Salesiana.
Aveva appena cominciato il Noviziato a Mohernando (Guadalajara), allorché, scoppiata la rivoluzione, fu detenuto con tutta la comunità. Senza perdersi in lamenti, si dedicò con il Direttore a confortare gli animi, esortando ad avere fiducia nella Provvidenza e ad accettare quanto il Signore volesse disporre. Giunse persino ad offrire la vita per la salvezza dei confratelli.

Il 27 luglio i carcerati vennero trasferiti da Guadalajara a Mohernando. Durante il percorso alcuni miliziani, scorgendo il crocifisso che il martire portava con sé, gli ingiunsero di buttarlo via; ma, avendo ricevuto un deciso rifiuto, lo uccisero con una scarica di fucileria, mentre don Andrés, con le braccia aperte e il crocifisso nella mano destra, pregava ad alta voce.
Beatificato il 28 ottobre 2007.
